It is natural process of animal species to become extinct (e.g. dinosaurs, dodos, etc.). There is no reason why people should stop this from happening. Do you agree or disagree?

Animal species disappear because of changes on the Earth that are caused either by nature or by human activities. While nothing can be done about nature, humans can help save many animal species from being extinct.

(2) Human activities

(3) Extinct

Extinction is a natural phenomenon. After all, more than 90 percent of all animal species that have ever lived on Earth are not alive today, and this has had nothing to do with human beings. Sometimes, a natural event, like a volcanic eruption, can kill an entire species. It is interesting to know that dinosaurs were wiped out by an enormous asteroid impact on the planet around 66 million years ago, in the absence of humans. Animal extinctions may also be caused by natural occurrences such as climate heating or cooling or changes in sea levels. For example, after the ICE Ages, when the glaciers melted and the planet became warmer, many species died out because they could not live in a warmer climate. In these cases, it is indeed senseless for humans to try to intervene and stop them from happening.

(2) Natural phenomenon

(3) Volcanic eruption

(4) Wipe out 消灭

(5) Asteroid 小行星

(6) In the absence of... ......不在场

(7) Senseless

(8) Intervene

Yet this does not mean that human activity is not at all responsible for animal extinction, especially in modern days. Given that it is a natural process of animal species to become extinct, humans have made it worse, and accelerated the extinction. A new study reveals that the famous extinction of Mauritian Dodo about 300 years ago began the moment Dutch sailors first encountered the bird on the island of Mauritius. As a matter of fact, many animal species have been lost due to the human role in habitat loss, environmental pollution, climate change, over-fishing, and over-hunting. Indeed, human activities have made the extinction of many animals take place long before the nature should have taken its course.

(2) Given that... 尽管

(3) Accelerate 加速

(4) Encounter 遇到

(5) Nature takes its course

In conclusion, although it is natural process that many animal species have died out, now there are enough reasons to believe that human beings should (and could) take action to prevent animals from disappearing too soon.

(2) Die out 灭绝(=disappear; become extinct)

More and more people are using computers and digital devices to access information, therefore there is no need for printed books, magazines or newspapers on paper. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The increase in Internet-capable digital devices and availability of computers in general has taken a toll on the traditional books, magazines and newspapers on paper. Will print copies disappear completely with the passage of time?

(2) Internet-capable

(3) Availability

(4) Take a toll on... 损害......

(5) With the passage of time 随着时间的流逝

In nearly all appearances, traditional copies in ink are likely to become extinct and move to digital form in the near future. Print has been facing a steady decrease in readership, as nowadays people are accustomed to getting information at the touch of a key or screen. Particularly, the newer generations have been brought up with the access to information via computers and other digital media devices. Meanwhile, most of the adult population may also discover the convenience of finding information online. As the Internet contains an endless supply of information that allows users to learn about whatever subject they want to know by simply using a search engine, it seems that there is no need for physical copies any more.

(2) To become extinct

(3) Be accustomed to...

(5) Via 通过

(6) Search engine

While the digital revolution is changing the way people read for information, print is still a worthwhile option even in this digital world. There remain readers who feel a need for printed books, magazines and newspapers on paper. For one thing, they find reading on paper more enjoyable than reading on computers and digital devices, and the printed information more reliable. Besides, compared with the electronic version, printed books, newspapers and magazines can provide a more emotional connection with the reader, allowing a deeper understanding of and engagement with the written words. In short, having a printed copy, be it a book, magazine or newspaper, is likely a more enjoyable and trusted way of obtaining information than its digital counterpart.

(2) Option 选择

(3) Compared with... 与......相比

(4) Engagement

(5) Be it A, B, or C... C (=whether it is A, B, or C)

(6) Counterpart

In conclusion, when it comes to getting information, the Internet is killing printed books, magazines and newspapers. As a result, print is gradually down but not yet entirely out.

(2) When it comes to... 在...... 而言

(3) ...is down but not out ......

Many offenders commit more crimes after serving the first punishment.Why is this happening?What measures can be taken to tackle this problem?

The penalty they suffered may be light compared with what they done in crimes.

* 第二个问题也是很明显:what they done是什么鬼?应该是what they do或者what they have done吧。

* 第三个问题:suffer的意思是“遭受”,语意中有“可怜、惋惜、怜悯,总之扼腕叹息,觉得好可怜”之情。那罪犯受罚,用带有这样感情色彩的词,是不合适的。

* 第四个问题不太明显,但是问题很大:compared with前后的比较对象不一致。The penalty they suffer 和 what they (have) done in crimes 形成比较?“惩罚(最为犯罪的结果)”和“犯罪行为”怎么比较轻重呢?应该是“他们实际受到的惩罚”比较于“他们本应该收到的惩罚”才对吧。

The penalty for their criminal conduct may be less deterrent than it should be.
